Robert Scott's Antarctic diary. Captain Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912) sitting at a table in his quarters,writing in his diary during the British Antarctic Expedition of 1910 to 1913. This is also known as the Terra Nova Expedition. It was during this expedition that Scott and four others died returning from their attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole. They reached the South Pole second behind a party led by Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen.
