Birmingham steam engine pioneers. Gilded bronze statue of (left to right) steam engine pioneers: Matthew Boulton (1728-1809),James Watt (1736-1819),and William Murdoch (1754-1839). The statue is located outside the Registry Office,Broad Street,Birmingham,UK. The trio are examining designs for steam engines,built at the Boulton and Watt factory in the Soho area of Birmingham. Murdoch later become a partner in the factory. Planned in 1938,the statue was not unveiled until 1956. The sculptors were William Bloye and Raymond Forbes-Kings. The plinth is Portland Stone | |
