Female bush cricket. Bush crickets (family Tettigoniidae),also known as katydids, inhabit mostly tropical regions. They usually feed on leaves and flowers, although they are capable of preying on other insects and small reptiles. The spiny forelegs are used to catch prey and the large ovipositor (oval protrusion) at the posterior end is used for laying eggs in rotten wood.
