Michel Eugene Chevreul (1786-1889),French chemist. This statue,by French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Claude Eugene Guillaume, was erected in 1886 at the French Museum of Natural History to celebrate Chevreul's centenary. The museum was where Chevreul worked for many decades, serving several times as director, and was where he lived from 1862 following the death of his wife. Chevruel died a few years after the centenary celebrations,at the age of 102. His most famous work was on fatty acids, soaps, candles and dyes.
