Iron in copper sulphate solution. Iron (Fe) nail coated in copper after being removed from a solution of copper (II) sulphate (CuSO4). Iron is more reactive than the copper and has begun to replace it in the solution, with solid copper (Cu) forming on the iron nail in what is termed a 'displacement' or 'substitution' reaction. Over time and with enough iron the solution would become pure iron sulphate (FeSo4) | |
