Pyrope sand. Pyrope is a red mineral belonging to the garnet group. It is formed of magnesium aluminium silicate and is a frequent component of metamorphic rocks, where it occurs as embedded grains and rounded crystals. Crystals tend to be rare and cuttable sizes are generally small. Pyrope sand may be found in accumulations in natural sand deposits or may be industrially produced by enrichment of alluvial sands. It is often used commercially in sandblasting and water treatment | |
