Snow gum (Eucalyptus pauciflora niphophila) trees after a forest fire. This hardy sub-species is found in regions of Victoria,Australia, between 1450-2000 metres above sea level. Here, the whole area is recovering from the devastating bush fires of 2002/3. The bleached stems are the skeletal remains of snow gum trees that were burned. In the foreground there is visible regeneration (green) from the bases of apparently dead trees. Photographed in the Australian Alps,Victoria,Australia | |
