MODEL RELEASED. Coronary angioplasty surgery. Patient with a balloon catheter inserted into a blood vessel in their groin during an angioplasty procedure on their coronary artery. Angioplasty is used to mechanically widen a narrowed or obstructed blood vessel. A balloon catheter is inserted into the narrowed area and inflated to force the vessel open. It is then deflated and retracted back out of the body. An X-ray machine (upper centre) is used to help guide the catheter to the correct position in the artery | |
