Isaac Barrow (1630-1677),English mathematician. Barrow graduated from Cambridge University in 1648 and became Professor of Greek (1660). He was also Master of Trinity College (1672-1677),and Lucasian Chair in Mathematics (1664-1669). He resigned the latter in favour of his pupil Issac Newton,whose work on differential calculus he came close to anticipating. He was also a noted classicist and theologian. This frontispiece is from his 'Geometrical Lectures' (1735),a translated edition of a collection first published in 1669.
