Andre-Marie Ampere (1775-1836),French physicist and pioneer of electrodynamics. Ampere also worked as a mathematician and chemist. He was elected to the French Academy of Sciences in 1814. His most famous work came when he began to study the new field of electromagnetism in 1820. His work in this area led to the International System (SI) unit of electric current being named after him. In 1828,he was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Various electrical and scientific equipment are seen across bottom.
