Scott's Antarctic expedition. Historical image of the team of the Terra Nova Expedition standing by a Norwegian tent at the South Pole. The Terra Nova Expedition (officially the British Antarctic Expedition 1910) was led by Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912) with the objective of being the first to reach the geographical South Pole. The five-man team reached the pole on 17th January 1912 but found that a Norwegian team led by Roald Admussen (1872-1928) had beaten them to it by 33 days. Scott's entire party died on the return journey. Photographed in January 1912 | |
