Lincoln Ellsworth (1880-1951). Historical image of the American explorer Lincoln Ellsworth on a ship. Ellsworth is best known for the mountains in Antarctica that bear his name,which he discovered on 23rd November 1935 during a trans-Antarctic flight. He made four expeditions to Antarctica between 1933 and 1939 and in 1926 he accompanied Roald Amundsen (1872-1928) on his second effort to fly over the North Pole in the airship Norge.
