Antisthenes (c.445 BCE - c.365 BCE),Greek philosopher. Antisthenes lived in Athens. He studies under Gorgias before encountering Socrates. He extended Socrates' ideas on asceticism,holding that virtue was the only true goal of the good person. In this way he is viewed as the founder of the Cynic school of philosophy.
