Curtis Fletcher Marbut (1863-1935),US geologist. Marbut studied at the University of Missouri,and then at Harvard,obtaining his masters in 1844. He become professor of geology at Missouri,and also worked for the US Department of Agriculture. His speciality was soil science,including soil genesis,morphology,and mapping. Marbut's surveys established national and international soil classification systems. In 1930,he was awarded the Cullum Geographical Medal of the American Geographical Society.
