Caricature of Roentgen and X-rays. The German experimental physicist Wilhelm Konrad Roentgen (1845-1923) had discovered X-rays in 1895. This artwork shows his skeleton revealed by the use of X-rays. He was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901. X-rays are today widely used in medicine as a diagnostic tool. This artwork was originally from 'Lustige Blatter',a weekly German humour magazine. This copy is from the German book 'Die Karikatur und Satire in der Medizin' (Caricature and Satire in Medicine,1921) by the German art historian and physician Eugen Hollander (1867-1932) | |
