Niacin is a lipid (fat) lowering agent that reduces the overall amount of cholesterol,free fatty acids and triglycerides in the blood. It prevents the breakdown of fats in adipose tissue (fat storage tissue) including the breakdown of the precursor of low density lipoprotein (LDL),also known as 'bad' cholesterol.
