Also known as co-amoxiclav,this is a combination drug containing amoxicillin (a penicillin antibiotic) and the beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid. It was developed in the 1970s by the British pharmaceutical company Beecham. These caplets have been produced by GlaxoSmithKline. The combination of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid increases the spectrum of infections the drug can be used against,allowing this drug to be used against bacteria that are resistant to amoxicillin
