MODEL RELEASED. Jaw bone surgery. Surgeons using surgical tools to remove old screws from a fractured lower jaw bone (mandible). The screws were placed following a previous operation for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). However, the patient sustained a fracture of the mandible while eating. This operation revealed infection at the fracture site, which was washed out and debris removed. New screws were inserted and the jaw fixed for six weeks to allow healing. OSA is a condition where airway obstruction and soft tissue collapse causes breathing to be interrupted while sleeping | |
