AIRIX nuclear weapons testing. X-ray of an explosion in materials being used in simulations of nuclear weapons. The X-ray was obtained at the AIRIX facility, where a high-intensity electron beam is accelerated to generate an X-ray pulse to produce 3D images of materials being used to simulate nuclear weapons. Together with the Laser Megajoule (LMJ) and the TERA-10 supercomputer, the AIRIX facility is part of the French simulation programme developed to avoid the need for nuclear tests.
