Paul Sabatier (1854-1941),French chemist and Nobel laureate. Sabatier's research covered inorganic and organic chemistry,especially the effects and properties of catalysts. He is best-known for the Sabatier process,a chemical reaction where a nickel catalyst is used to produce methane (and water) from carbon dioxide and hydrogen. He was jointly awarded the 1912 Nobel Prize in Chemistry,and also won the Franklin Medal in 1933. This photograph dates from between 1905 and 1945.
