Drawings of Mars. These drawings and annotations were made from 8-13 March 1933 by the British comedian and amateur astronomer William Thomson Hay (1888-1949). Here,he has observed geographical features on Mars (dark areas) and the presence of the southern polar ice cap. Observations such as these allowed astronomers to see if the appearance of Mars changed over time. Hay,who lived in London, had become a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1932. Most of his observations were of the positions of comets | |
