Wood beetle larvae, following harvesting from a felled rainforest palm tree in the Congo Basin. These beetle larvae are an important source of protein for local inhabitants. To cultivate these larvae,a felled palm tree is cut open and allowed to rot on the ground. The female beetle soon lays its eggs in the wood, and around two months later these large larvae will be ready for harvesting, cooking and eating.
