Tiu Valles,Mars, satellite image. North is at top. This is a perspective stereo-colour image of several impact craters in what is thought to be an estuary-like area,in the Tiu Valles region of Mars. The winding formations (one at upper right) are thought to be due to lava coming into contact with water. The area here is around 20 kilometres across. The image data is from the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board the European Space Agency's (ESA) Mars Express Orbiter | |
