Marsh marigold flower bud. Light micrograph of a cross-section through the anther of an immature marsh marigold (Caltha palustris) flower bud. The anther consists of four pollen sacs (microsporangia) connected in the centre by stamen filament tissue. The young developing anthers have an anther wall (deep red) lining the sac,the tapetum. The blue cells in the centre of the anther sac are microspore mother cells, which eventually develop into the pollen grains. Magnification: x100 when printed 10 centimetres wide | |
