Cape ground squirrel (Xerus inauris) lying down with its tail in the air. This rodent lives in open arid areas of southern Africa. It is a social animal living in colonies numbering between 5 and 30 individuals. The colonies dig extensive burrow systems. It feeds on grasses,roots,seeds and insects.
