Soil bacteria medical research. Microbiologist John Stanford using calves to test an immmunoregulator vaccine developed from research into soil bacteria. The vaccine is based on Mycobacterium vaccae,a soil bacterium found in mud used by the Bedick ethnic group of eastern Senegal to treat skin diseases. The mud was used to prevent leprosy and other skin conditions. It is thought that the immunoregulator vaccine could be used in humans to help prevent conditions such as asthma, psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and tuberculosis | |
