Killer bee swarm trap. Africanised honey bees (AHB) or African killer bees (Apis mellifera scutellata) congregating on a swarm trap in the southern USA. AHBs are highly aggressive in the defence of their nest, stinging anything that comes too close and commonly chasing intruders for several hundred metres. AHBs were created in Brazil by breeding African and European honey bees together. However they escaped into the wild in 1956 and have now spread up Central America to the USA | |
