This is the central portion of the stem consisting of the inner cortex (red,right) and the central vascular cylinder (stele,round,centre left). The inner cortex consists of thick-walled sclerenchyma cells. The stele consists of thick-walled wood (xylem) cells and thin-walled parenchyma cells interspersed with phloem (both blue).
