Shellfish fossils. Rock containing fossils of a Homarus hakelensis lobster (lower right) and a Capopenaeus callirostris shrimp (upper left). Fossils appear as rock slowly forms around objects buried in mud. As the rock forms, the shape and anatomy of buried animals and plants can be preserved. The lobster measures 10 centimetres across. Both date from around 95 million years ago in the Cenomanian age of the late Cretaceous epoch | |
