Chimpanzee reintroduction. Baby chimpanzee climbing a tree. This baby's mother had been released back into the wild after being cared for at the HELP-Congo sanctuary. The HELP sanctuary was founded in 1990. It protects and cares for chimpanzees orphaned through illegal poaching and trafficking in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The centre was the first of its kind in the DRC and the first to show that chimpanzees could be reintroduced to the wild. It also campaigns against the illegal trafficking and poaching of these animals. Photographed in the Conkouati-Douli National Park,in the Democratic Republic of Congo,in 2003 | |
