Male Chalkhill Blue (Lysandra coridon). An elegant silvery-blue butterfly that is characteristic of warm chalk and limestone hillsides. Numbers have declined during the last century due to ploughing out of its downland habitat and the advent of myxomatosis - the rabbits used to prevent the short downland sward turning into rough pasture.
