Brimstone butterfly (Gonepteryx rhamni) feeding on nectar from wild marjoram (Origanum vulgare) flowers. Brimstones have a single brood which emerges during late summer. The butterflies then hibernate through the winter and emerge in March when they are amongst the first butterflies to be seen each year. This makes brimstones one of the longest-lived butterflies, surviving almost a year as adults | |
