Female European corn borer moth (Ostrinia nubilalis) on a mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) stem. This moth is native to Europe and is a major agricultural pest. The moth lays its eggs on the stems of plants, and the newly hatched larvae then bore inside the plants' stems to feed on the tissues within. This fatally destroys the plant's internal structures such as the vascular tissues, which are needed to transport water, sugars and nutrients throughout the plant | |
