MODEL RELEASED. Varicose vein treatment. Patient undergoing transluminal occlusion of perforators (TRLOP) to treat varicose veins. A radio frequency stiletto (RFS,dark blue, bottom left) has been inserted into the patient's vein using an ultrasound probe (centre) to guide its positioning. A local anaesthetic (upper centre) is being applied to the area. Perforators are veins that join the superficial veins, close to the surface of the body,to the deep veins. The RFS heats the targeted vein by applying radio waves to its interior as it is withdrawn down the vein. This causes the vein to shrink and close (occlude). Following treatment, the vein is no longer visible and remains in the body. TRLOP is a minimally invasive technique and is carried out using only a local anaesthetic | |
