Urania's Mirror box cover. This 19th century astronomical teaching aid consisted of cards that are pierced with holes showing the brightest stars so the pattern of the constellations can be seen when held up to the light. The cards were published in London,England, and it is thought they originally dated from around 1825. It is thought that this version was published in 1884 by J. Aspin, with a booklet titled Familiar Treatise. For an example of one of the cards, see V700/200 | |
