Bronze Age village. 19th century artwork of a prehistoric Swiss village and its inhabitants in a lake. This image is based on discoveries made from lake settlements in Switzerland and its neighbouring countries, dating mainly from the Neolithic (stone age) period and Bronze Age (end of 5th century to beginning of 1st century BC). It is thought that humans living during this period would have built huts like these in lakes,to increase their safety from predators and other humans. The actual layout and design of such villages is unknown. Image from Primitive Man,published in 1876 by Louis Figuier (1819-1894) | |
