Carbon-rich planet,artwork. Some planets are thought to form from protoplanetary discs richer in carbon than silicates,leading to a carbon-rich planet. Earth,in contrast,is formed largely of silicates (silicon and oxygen). Carbon-rich planets would be formed mostly of various forms and compounds of carbon,such as carbides,graphite and diamond.
