Cliff face. Erosion showing bands of the Bridport Sands, which were laid down in a shallow, tropical sea about 180 million years ago (Middle Jurassic). Alternating with the soft sand are protuding harder bands of rock where the sand has been cemented together with calcite and is much more resistant to weathering. In these hard layers, patterns can be seen that are the result of the movement of material by burrowing animals that lived in the sands at the time (bioturbation).
