The pollen grains,which contain the male gametes,are transferred to the flower by insects. A pollen tube is seen growing out of one of these grains (foreground); this will travel through the stigma towards the ovary. The male nuclei travel down this tube,fertilize the ovules and a seed is formed. Magnification: x1100 at 6.45cm size
