Macrophotograph of Phelum pratense,Timothy grass,or cat's-tail,seen here in flower during the summer months (June to August). Timothy is common througout Britain on pastures, roadsides & wasteground. It forms an important fodder crop & is planted for both hay & grazing. In the summer it produces copious quantities of pollen, which is dispersed by the wind. Timothy is one of the grass pollens most responsible for hayfever (Allergic rhinitis & pollenosis),an allergy in which the mucous membranes of the nose, eyes & throat swell,& become inflammed.
