Cape sundew. Macrophotograph of a leaf of a cape sundew,Drosera capensis. The stalked secretory glands (red) are seen. These exude the glue (colourless) which traps passing insects and gives the plant its dew-like shine in the sun. The plant secretes enzymes to digest the insect and obtain nitrogen. This allows it to live in nutrient-poor soils such as those found in bogs and marshlands. Magnification: x11 at 5x7cm size. x5.4 at 35mm size | |
