| False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Cyclotella meneghiniana,a diatom found in the brackish water of saline or polluted streams & lakes. Diatoms are a type of alga. They consist of two valves,made of silica,which fit together like the top & bottom of a box. The valves are often decorated with tiny pores,ridges,spikes or other projections.
