Petri dish culture of Epidermophyton flaccosum,a fungus causing athelete's foot (Tinea pedis, medical name) in humans. The culture is seen here after three weeks growth on Sabouraud dextrose. Athelete's foot is the commonest form of ringworm which affects the skin between the toes & may spread to the soles of the feet. Ringworm (medical name Tinea) is a collection of infections of the skin, including also the scalp, and occasionally the nails. It is highly contagious and often picked up from infected dogs and cats. It is treated with antibiotics such as griseofulvin | |
