At left the copper II ions (Cu2-) in copper sulphate solution give the blue colour. Addition of hydrochloric acid leads to the formation of tetrachlorocuprate II complex ions ((CuCl4)2-) and their yellow colour mixed with the blue of the copper ions produces the green solution | |
