Close-up of part of the large ARGUS particle detector at DESY,the German particle physics laboratory in Hamburg. ARGUS studies the results of electron-positron interactions at the DORIS collider at DESY. It has produced a number of important results, especially in research on the bottom quark. ARGUS consists of a big magnet & cylindrical sets of instruments nestling inside each other like layers in a Swiss roll. These instruments include wire drift chambers, shower counters,& myon detectors, which enable the different types of particle produced in a particle collision to be identified.``````````````` | |
