DELPHI detector. Barrel of the DELPHI detector at CERN (the European particle physics laboratory) near Geneva,Switzerland. DELPHI was one of four detectors placed around the large electron positron (LEP) collider ring at CERN. Positron and electron beams were accelerated and collided head on in the LEP and DELPHI detected the resultant secondary particles. DELPHI was able to differentiate between all of the secondary charged particles. The DELPHI experiment was stopped in 2000,but as of 2006 the data are still being analysed. Photographed in 1989 when the barrel was installed | |
