DELPHI particle detector. View of the end cap of the DELPHI particle detector at CERN,the European particle physics lab near Geneva. The black disc in the centre of the frame is part of the RICH ring imaging Cerenkov counter. This is used to detect fast-moving particles which emerge from high-energy collisions in a direction close to the beam axis. The mass of cables carry signals from RICH and other detector elements to computers for recording and analysis. DELPHI is one of four major experiments on the 27-km Large Electron Positron (LEP) collider ring at CERN | |
