Dividing cell in anaphase stage of mitosis. Light micrograph of a blastula in the anaphase stage of mitosis. Mitosis is the cell division of a nucleus, typically consisting of four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. During anaphase, chromosomes (centre) move to opposite poles of the cell. Each centromere divides and the new chromosomes (each derived from one member of one of the sets of paired chromatids) begin to move toward the poles along a network of microtubules that form the spindle. This blastula is from a whitefish. Magnification: x730 when printed at 10 centimetres across. | |
