Komatiite is a very rare, Mg-rich volcanic rock that contains abundant olivine which sometimes crystallizes into a dendritic (tree-like) form, called 'spinifex texture', as seen in this image. Polarized light, crossed polarizers and red tint lambda plate. The rock slice (thin section) is 30-micron-thick. Zeiss Axioscop 40pol. Width of view: 2.7 mm.
