Resembling golden grass, fine strands of volcanic glass, referred to as Pele's hair, wave in the wind near Halemaumau crater rim at the summit of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. The strands are emitted into the air during vigorous lava activity before falling to the ground. Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes. | |
